MPO Fiber Overview

MPO stands for Multi-fiber Push On. MPO fiber typically refers to the MPO fiber patch cords we commonly use. This type of fiber patch cord consists of an MPO connector and an optical cable. The MPO fiber patch cord connector is a multi-core fiber connector type adopted by the IEEE standard as one of the connector types for 40G/100G transmission. Like LC/SC/FC fiber optic patch cords, the difference lies in the connector type and the number of fiber cores. MPO connectors are more complex than LC/SC/FC connectors. MPO high-density fiber optic pre-terminated systems are currently primarily used in three major areas: high-density environments in data centers, fiber-to-the-building applications, and internal connections within optical transceivers such as splitters and optical modules.
